Today, we had the honor of hosting our very first jewelry making class for young Queens in Harlem, NYC. We were thrilled when Latoya Gordon, program coordinator for the Study Now Play Later Saturday program at the Children's Aid Society; asked Design By U Essentials to conduct an art class for her super fabulous group "Pretty Girl's Rock." We presented three themes and they selected "Crown Me."
The class was instructed by artisan, Tima Samad. The young ladies learned how to make a "Crown" Headband. In addition to cutting, painting, & pattern making, they also had the opportunity to learn the history about crowns, give feedback and join a discussion on their representation. In addition to getting a little creative and dirty, we were thrilled to see the smiles on these young Queens faces.
Information on the class that we offered today is below. If you would like further information on other classes we offer, or on how you can host a children's jewelry making class, feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
